Kampala Metropolitan Police, working jointly with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), have conducted a series of intelligence-led operations in Wakiso District targeting criminal networks linked to robberies and drug abuse hotspots.
According to a statement issued by the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the operations were part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and dismantle organised criminal activity in the region.
In the first operation carried out on April 14, 2026, security teams raided Mayirikiti Zone in Buwambo Ward, Kasangati Town Council, where they arrested Owor Isaac, also known as “Mbolimboli,” described by police as a suspected notorious criminal and alleged leader of the “Kasolo” gang.
Police said the suspect is believed to have orchestrated a series of house break-ins and robberies along the Matugga–Kasangati–Kawempe corridor. Several individuals alleged to be his accomplices were also arrested during the operation.
In a separate operation conducted on April 16, 2026, at around 3:30 a.m., joint security forces carried out another raid in Buwate, Najjera II, in Kira Municipality.
During the operation, eight suspects were arrested from identified hotspots associated with narcotic substance abuse. Police said exhibits of suspected marijuana were recovered at the scene.
The suspects have since been charged with possession of suspected narcotic drugs and are being held at Kira Division Police Station pending further screening and investigations.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyeye said the operations reflect sustained efforts to disrupt criminal networks and restore safety in affected communities, noting that similar interventions will continue.
He also emphasised the role of community cooperation in supporting security operations.
“The community continues to play a vital role in supporting security efforts, and members of the public have been encouraged to assist in identifying suspects and providing information related to ongoing investigations,” he said.
Police added that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
